Atlantic WoodWORKS! is a program of the Maritime Lumber Bureau (MLB)
About Atlantic WoodWORKS!:
Atlantic WoodWORKS! (initiated in 2011) is a non-profit program that partners with governments and industry to expand the use of regionally produced wood products in non-residential and multi-family construction markets by providing technical support, hosting educational events, and promotional services.
The MANDATE is to inform and educate architects, engineers, developers, regulators and various levels of government on the economic, environmental and performance benefits of wood construction.
The VISION is to be passionate, credible agents of change leading an advanced and sustainable wood culture.
The MISSION is to ensure the built environment in Canada maximizes the use of wood-based solutions for the domestic wood industry by advocating, educating and connecting.
Background:
The success of the Atlantic Canadian forest industry is largely dependent on the health of housing markets in the United States (US). This statement is supported by the fact that from 2010 to 2014 on average 71% of the Maritime Lumber Bureau’s (MLB) membership production was exported to US markets. Single market dependency to this degree subjects the industry to various factors of vulnerability beyond our control. Atlantic shipments to the United States reached a high of 80% of production in 2003 and 2004. The Atlantic WoodWORKS! Project was designed to focus on diversifying from single market dependency through stimulating demand and finding innovative uses for regionally produced wood products in our regional non-residential and multi-residential construction markets.
