“This is the first project of its type in Atlantic Canada that uses the open airspace, consisting of combustible material, between the roof decking and the drop ceiling as a plenum. Plenum material is normally non combustible and the AHJ initially was not allowing this material configuration.  Through consultation with WoodWORKS! and the Canadian Wood Council, the project architect was able to demonstrate to the AHJ that by using an intumescent coating on the combustible material to minimize the flame spread rating, the proposed assembly was a code compliant solution.”
