Kevin Below Bio:
Mr. Kevin D. Below is president of Douglas Consultants, Consulting Engineer, specialist structure. He worked for over 36 years in the fields of education, engineering consulting and construction in Canada. During those years, he served primarily as project manager and design engineer in the field of structure. His accomplishments include the design and / or construction of several buildings in Quebec, Australia and elsewhere. He began his career as an engineering professor and researcher on the behavior of the CN Tower at the University of Toronto.
By his interest in sustainable development and the development of the local economy, as well as his taste for innovation, he leans more on wood structures, which represent more than 50% of its backlog current. He participates in programs of research and development at the national level on the use of Canadian and Quebec woods. He also conducted a study of technical and economic feasibility of timber frame ideal for buildings up to eight storey’s in collaboration with FPInnovations (Forintek) to facilitate the achievement of government objectives to increase the use of wood in Quebec construction. He is currently involved development of powerful new connections to the ribs of the wooden frame, in order to improve efficiency, ease of installation at the site, as well as the cost.

Mr. David C. Stewart, MS, P. Eng., specializes in energy analyses and green building assessments using state-of-the art tools such as Green Globes and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) protocols. He is a national team member on the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes to update.

This will lead to significant long-term energy, water and waste cost savings for any major upgrade of facilities including new and existing buildings.

Ben Coles is a Project Coordinator at RJ Bartlett Engineering Ltd in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Ben is a
licensed Professional Engineer in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Maine. Ben graduated as a
mechanical engineer in 2003 from the University of New Brunswick (UNB) and has since completed his
M.Sc.E. in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in 2009 and MBA in
Engineering Management from UNB in 2011.
Ben has participated on a variety of committees with organizations such as the Society of Fire Protection
Engineers (SFPE), Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick, and
Association of Consulting Engineering Companies.
Ben provides fire protection consulting services on all types of occupancies.
